    Health and Safety Coordinator

     

     

    Position Overview

     

    Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Coordinator will support the daily operations and administer and participate in all safety-related training programs. Assist in investigations to identify and resolve any issues that arise and be the main contact for all Worksafe paperwork. This position will require on-call (24/7) availability in the event of serious safety and/or facility emergencies that require immediate feedback and investigation.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Identify safety risks and actively participate in executing plans to resolve and correct these actions
    • Ability to present information in a clear, logical, and concise manner either in written form or in front of an audience; ability to create and utilize audio/visual aids, graphs/charts to increase interest and understanding of information presented
    • Interpret and implement changes according to the employer claim submission process
    • Coordinate work conditioning programs and monitor the effectiveness of the modified work programs by department
    • Develop, implement and monitor safety initiatives in compliance with the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, Hazardous Products Act and Workers’ Compensation
    • Monitor team members on modified duty while working with HR and WCB for appropriate turn around on RTW
    • Participate in monthly Occupational Health and Safety meetings at Gordon Food Services
    • Represent Gordon Food Services during WCB workplace inspections and complete monthly safety inspections
    • Monitor WHMIS 2015 and TD6 program for compliance and training
    • Partake in all GFS safety audits and implement GFS best practices
    • Ensure the completion and tracking of contractors’ safety agreements
    • Oversee the safety aspect of training for all operations equipment (forklift/pallet jack)
    • Schedule external first aid when required
    • Ensure fire procedures are compliant with the provincial fire codes
    • Create internal incident reports and investigations

     

    Required Skills and Qualifications

    • Must be dependable, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team or individually
    • Willingness to learn, accept change and the ability to work in a fast paced environment
    • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or related studies
    • Minimum 2 years of previous experience in Health and Safety OR combination of education, training and relevant work experience
    • Proficient in Google Applications such as Gmail, Google Slides, Docs and Sheets
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal (English)
    • Responds with a sense of urgency and embraces change
    • Energetic team player with strong organizational and multitasking skills
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision
